One of East Hampton’s most beloved cornerstones, The Hedges Inn, is preparing to step into a new era. After a wonderful inaugural seasons under ownership of the Wetenhalls, the historic property will undergo a full-scale restoration led by acclaimed interior designer and writer David Netto, whose work merges classical design with a modern, spirited sensibility.
Handpicked by Sarah Wetenhall, Owner and CEO of The Hedges Inn, Netto brings not only his renowned eye for design but also his deep roots in the East End community. Known for his thoughtful yet irreverent style, Netto has long been celebrated for interiors that balance elegance with personality, qualities that resonate seamlessly with the Hamptons’ timeless but evolving identity.
The restoration promises to be a considered evolution rather than a reinvention. Every detail, from architecture to guest experience, will be reimagined with purpose while preserving the inn’s historic soul. Wetenhall, who revitalized The Colony Palm Beach, describes her goal as honoring The Hedges’ rich legacy while making it resonate with today’s traveler.
“The Hedges is core to East Hampton’s identity,” says Wetenhall. “Our goal is to preserve its soul while updating it for today’s guest: discerning, design-minded, and seeking a deeper sense of place. We’re not changing what it is; we’re helping it become the best version of itself.”
Netto echoes this vision, sharing that his hope is to design spaces that feel both stylish and inevitable — “the kind of rooms you walk into and wonder why it wasn’t always that way.”
The project will also feature a redesign of the gardens and grounds by noted landscape architect Ed Hollander, alongside contributions from FGS Designs, Fleetwood, McMullan, and Sanabria as project architects.
Set to reopen in spring 2026, the new Hedges Inn will continue to embody the charm and intimacy of East Hampton hospitality, while introducing a refreshed energy that ensures its legacy for decades to come.
