This past Saturday August 2nd, Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI), the nation’s oldest LGBTQIA+ youth organization, marked a historic milestone this weekend as its signature Hamptons benefit, School’s Out, shattered fundraising records for the fourth consecutive year raising an unprecedented $900,000. The event, held on the stunning Sagaponack estate of Soraida Bedoya and Christi Offutt, drew over 600 guests and became the highest-grossing benefit in the event’s 25-year history.

Hosted by School’s Out co-chairs Ben Dixon and Tonia Steck, alongside HMI’s Board of Directors and Associate Board, the evening was powered by generous sponsorships, spirited auctions, and a shared commitment to HMI’s mission: ensuring queer and trans youth have access to safety, affirmation, and essential resources.

The star-studded guest list included Andy Cohen, Countess Luann de Lesseps, Rufus Wainwright, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Candace Bushnell, Frank DiLella, Thom Filicia, Isaac Boots, Fern Mallis, Eric Lemonides, Peter Som, and Darren Star. Guests enjoyed a “Best of the Hamptons” dinner under a spectacular tent by Anthony Taccetta Event Design, with culinary partners Petrossian Caviar, STK Steak, Almond Restaurant, and Duryea’s.

Broadway powerhouse Kelsie Watts, currently starring in SIX, delivered a show-stopping performance, underscoring the importance of HMI’s mission. “Every human should have access to mental health resources, education, performing arts resources, support, and professional counseling,” Watts said.

The night also featured aerial performances, human flower greeters, disco ball dancers, and music by DJ Lina Bradford. A live auction, led by Nick Dener and joined on stage by Kelly Killoren Bensimon, offered standout items like United Airlines flights and a luxury villa stay in Baja, California.

Fashion designer Dennis Basso added to the excitement with a special paddle raise. “School’s Out is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when the community shows up for our youth,” said HMI CEO Amy Harclerode.

Sponsors included Nordstrom, United, Anthony Taccetta Event Design, Diageo, Dry Farm Wines, Sober in Central Park, Dixon Advisor, and The Hub.

Founded over 46 years ago, HMI continues to serve LGBTQIA+ youth ages 13–24 through a comprehensive package of direct services, advocacy, and innovative programs designed to foster safety, self-expression, and opportunity.
