The Southampton Arts Center and the Peconic Land Trust’s Bridge Gardens are partnering with Hamptons Sculpture SIGHTS, the premier outdoor sculpture exhibition series in the Hamptons, established and curated by Cheryl Sokolow of C Fine Art. This collaboration aims to enrich the cultural scene in the Hamptons by featuring outstanding outdoor sculptures at various sites throughout the season, bringing impressive large-scale artworks to the community.

Uncommon Ground returns to Bridge Gardens for its sixth edition. Uncommon Ground VI explores our relationship with the natural world and the environments we construct. The dynamic of "the garden," with its interplay between the cultivated and the purely natural, serves as the foundation from which the sculptures appear to emerge.

The exhibition, titled "Organic Abstraction: Contemporary Outdoor Sculpture," returns to the grounds of the Southampton Art Center for its second season. This exhibition delves into the materials, processes, and techniques employed by established, internationally recognized sculptors whose works are part of museum collections, all operating within a formalist framework. The artists' challenges are evident as they shape, mold, and weld a negotiated balance between the malleability and constraints imposed by their chosen materials. Syntax, form, and the artistic process become the focal point of each piece, each being immediately comprehended through its physical attributes, offering a pure aesthetic experience devoid of narrative.

Concepts of nature serve as a unifying and inspirational theme across both exhibitions, whether through material, form, or concept. Norman Mooney's sculptures exemplify the fleeting nature of the environment, capturing the intricacies of form, pattern, and sequences found in natural phenomena. These are presented with exquisitely polished surfaces that reflect the natural surroundings. Kevin Barrett's work showcases organic shapes and rhythms derived from both the human form and the landscape, executed with remarkable grace and natural balance. Isobel Folb Sokolow's sculptures draw inspiration from the Big Bang Theory, with her process vividly echoing this concept as fire-welded forms burst into existence. Both exhibitions effectively capture the essence of the natural outdoor atmosphere, creating a dynamic and evolving synergy between nature, art, and the viewer. This fosters an immersive experience that explores scale, perspective, place, and discovery.

Participating artists include Bill Barrett, Joel Perlman, Hans Van de Bovenkamp, Jane Manus, Kevin Barrett, Norman Mooney, Carole Eisner, Alex Barrett, Matt Devine, John Clement, Isobel Folb Sokolow, Micheal Enn Sirvet, Steve Zaluski, Aurelio Torres, and Jerelyn Hanrahan. A unique fund-raising opportunity will be provided through the purchase of artwork or donation to either non-profit organization.
